Graybar Named Material Supplier of the Year by the Utilities Service Alliance

Award recognizes company's efficiencies, innovative services in the nuclear power market

ST. LOUIS, June 16, 2009 - Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical and communications products and related supply chain management and logistics services, announced it has been named 2008 Material Supplier of the Year by the Utilities Service Alliance (USA).

Selected from nearly 100 Alliance suppliers, Graybar received this prestigious award for its superior customer service, quality products, and solution-driven teamwork and innovation.

"We are proud to receive this honor from the Utilities Service Alliance," said John Mansfield, Graybar's Vice President of Corporate Accounts. "The USA selects its suppliers with great care, and this award truly signifies the advantages we provide to our customers."

The USA selected Graybar for the Material Supplier of the Year Award based on the company's performance in the following criteria:

  • Price and total ownership cost savings
  • Technical support and service responsiveness
  • Delivery and quality performance
  • Continuous service and operational improvements

Since the late 1990s, Graybar has provided communication and electrical components to the USA, an independent fleet of 15 electric utilities that operate 27 nuclear power reactors at 17 stations committed to sharing resources and combining their purchasing power to reduce operating and maintenance costs while improving site performance.

The significant declines were predicted by economists specializing in the wholesale distribution industry and come as no surprise to employee-owned Graybar. "We anticipated a challenging business climate in 2009 and worked throughout last year to prepare the company for it," said Robert A. Reynolds Jr., Graybar's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We expect the rest of 2009 to be very difficult for our industry. Fortunately, Graybar's financial condition is strong with very low debt and healthy cash flow, which allows us to work to our customers' advantage and positions us to emerge from this downturn even stronger."

Graybar celebrates its 140th anniversary this year as well as 80 years of employee ownership. Reynolds adds, "As an employee-owned company, we take a long-term view of our business and are confident that our investments in technology, people and process improvement will lead to increased market share for the future."
