Graybar Unveils Direct Attach

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 9, 2012 – Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services, has identified another method for network connections in commercial facilities, known as Direct Attach.

Direct Attach is a simpler, more secure solution than the traditional method for connecting IP network devices in certain building-system applications, such as security cameras, wireless access points and lighting controls. Also known as the single connector modified permanent link method, Direct Attach removes the jack and patch cord from a typical Ethernet connection and attaches the device directly to a modular plug on the end of the horizontal Ethernet cable.

Graybar worked with independent testing organization Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to test and validate the Direct Attach system. UL actively and passively tested the category 5e and category 6 cables, in various configurations, to validate that the Direct Attach system complies with the applicable standards.

“Today, many building systems have IP connections that require little or no administration.  For these applications, Direct Attach can offer better safety, security, and aesthetics than a traditional cabling method,” said Karl Griffith, director, emerging technology for Graybar.

Graybar will exhibit the Direct Attach solution at its booth at the 2012 BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition, Feb. 12 to Feb. 16. More information, including the UL test results, can be found at
