Graybar Northwest Service Center Upgrades Lighting

Located in Renton, Washington, the Graybar Northwest Service Center is one of Graybar’s more than 260 North American distribution facilities.

In 2012, Graybar opened a new Northwest Service Center just south of Seattle. The existing 156,700 square foot building required a number of lighting upgrades before it met Graybar’s requirements for housing the district office and warehouse. The building was originally designed for standard storage use, and increased lighting was needed to accommodate the warehouse’s rack system.

Graybar needed an energy-efficient solution that would reduce cost, while still providing ample foot candles where needed.

Graybar compared numerous fluorescent and LED technologies before deciding on LEDs with state-of-the-art controls. A combination of 18,000 Lumen and 24,000 Lumen Lithonia IBL Series LED High Bay fixtures with wireless nLight controls were installed throughout the warehouse. For the district office, Acuity’s nLight wired system was installed and the existing 85-watt fixtures were replaced with 37- watt fixtures. For even more energy savings, field-adjustable maximum light levels were also reduced.

The Graybar Northwest Service Center expects to save an estimated $20,000 in annual operating costs. The expected net payback of the lighting upgrade is 2.9 years.

The new lights provide energy savings, an improved quality of light and help demonstrate the suitability of LEDs in both office and warehouse spaces. All funding and rebates for the project were obtained from Puget Sound Energy.

The flexibility of Acuity’s nLight system allows for easy field changes to accommodate future expansions, relocations and task reassignments. To see if Graybar can help with your lighting challenges, contact your Graybar representative, call 1-800-GRAYBAR or fill out the form below.
