Graybar Helps Shed New Light on the World's Best Collection of Motorcycles

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, is home to the world’s best motorcycle collection – housing more than 1,450 vintage and modern motorcycles and more than 80 racecars. A mecca to motorsports enthusiasts around the world, the museum can display approximately 600 motorcycles at any one time.

In early 2015, high energy costs and maintenance concerns led Barber Museum Executive Director Jeff Ray to begin looking for a new lighting solution to replace the thousands of halogen lamps throughout the museum.

Ray wanted a more energy-efficient solution that would still provide the proper lighting levels for each of the museum’s exhibits. He turned to Graybar, a leading distributor of high quality electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management solutions.

Graybar Senior Sales Representative Mike Reeves and PowerSmart Energy Manager Steve LoJacono proposed a GE LED PAR 38 lamp to replace the existing halogen lamps throughout the exhibits. The new lamps would reduce the amount of energy used, while significantly improving the area lighting, and ultimately the overall visitor experience.

The project was completed in April 2015, and the museum is pleased with the results.

“I never realized how yellow the existing lighting was until we installed the new LED lamps,” said Ray. “They look great in the retail area and provide a much brighter light than before. They really make the exhibits pop!”

The museum expects to save more than $62,000 in annual energy costs.

Pleased with Graybar’s complete portfolio of products and services, the Barber Museum plans to continue working with Graybar for its various facility, security and maintenance needs.
