Know Before You Install It

Just because the LED replacement lamp fits in the socket, doesn't mean it should be installed.

The following are examples of the types of things you should consider before installing LED replacement lamps.

  • What is the application? For example, a recessed, enclosed down light traps heat and may not adequately dissipate the heat away from the LED replacement.
  • What is the lamp life? Some fluorescent tubes have comparable lamp life and lumen output at a fraction of the cost of the LED replacement tubes. The ROI for this application is less compelling.
  • Consider UL. What happens to the UL rating of the fixture when the existing fluorescent ballast is bypassed and wired directly to the tombstones?
