Graybar Receives No. 1 Industry Ranking on the 2009 FORTUNE "World's Most Admired Companies" List

Company also tops Management Quality and Long-Term Investment rankings

ST. LOUIS, March 2, 2009 - Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical and communications products and related supply chain management and logistics services, today announced it ranked No. 1 on the annual FORTUNE "World's Most Admired Companies" list in the Wholesalers: Diversified industry category.

This is the eighth consecutive year Graybar has earned a place on the list and the third consecutive year it has been named Industry Leader in its category. Graybar, an employee-owned company since 1929, also ranked highly in all relevant categories that comprise the key elements of reputation, including:

  • No. 1 in Management Quality
  • No. 1 in Long-Term Investment
  • No. 2 in Financial Soundnes
  • No. 2 in Quality of Product and Services
  • No. 4 in Use of Assets
  • No. 6 in People Management

To compile the industry rankings, FORTUNE survey partner Hay Group polled executives, directors and analysts about the 15 largest international companies and 10 largest U.S. companies in each of 64 industry categories. The industry experts rated those companies in nine areas, including people-management and investment value. Only companies with scores ranking in the top half of their industry made the list. A total of 689 companies from 28 countries were surveyed.
