Graybar Helps Differentiate North Carolina Auto Dealership with Lighting Upgrades

Opportunity

In early 2015, high energy costs and ongoing maintenance expenses prompted McKenney Chevrolet in Lowell, North Carolina, to look for a more energy-efficient solution for its outdoor lighting system.

The existing system was outdated and becoming a maintenance burden. Plus, the lights lacked the visual appeal an auto dealership needed to compete with other dealerships.

McKenney General Manager Jace Stowe turned to Graybar, leading distributor of high quality electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management solutions, and electrical contractor M&M Electric for assistance.

Solution

Graybar Manager Specialty Business Scott Lackey and Sales Representative Kaila Lindsey enlisted the help of Bodwell Associates’ Lead Designer Harvey Henry to design the new lighting system. After reviewing the requirements of the dealership, the team determined that the Galleon from Eaton’s Cooper Lighting business would be the best fit for the 435,000 square-foot auto dealership.

“We utilized several different optical configurations and lumen packages in order to create a tailored solution that met all of the customer’s expectations,” said Lackey.

Results

Pleased with the results, McKenney Chevrolet expects an energy reduction of 80 percent and combined annual energy and maintenance savings in excess of $50,000. Graybar also assisted McKenney with the utility rebate process.

“Graybar made the entire process easy and simple. Lackey and Lindsey were very helpful in following through with the local utility company in order to capture the rebates,” said Stowe.

The new lights have helped improve the customer experience and allow customers to view vehicles and finishes with improved clarity.

“It was really a no brainer, especially when you look at how clean the light is,” said Stowe. “There is no overage on the road, plants or woods. All the light goes right to the cars, which look so much brighter and cleaner in the new LED light.”

In addition to this project, McKenney also integrated a parking lot expansion-lighting addition.
