Graybar Manager Honored by Department of Defense for Patriotic Support

Graybar Manager Supports National Guard

Graybar Corporate Communications Manager Tim Sommer was honored by the Missouri Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense (DoD) office, in recognition of extraordinary support of an employee serving in the Missouri National Guard.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Admiral Lee Metcalf (Ret.), Missouri ESGR State Chair. “Timothy Sommer, corporate communications manager was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard and Reserve by his employee, Sgt. Jacqueline Courtney. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

During a recent state emergency deployment, Graybar made sure that Courtney could leave on short notice without having to worry about her obligations at work. The company made the effort to pick up the tasks she had been assigned without complaint or concern. In addition, Graybar has consistently supported her routine obligations to the Guard that have included, among other things, short work-weeks when she had drill.

“Tim’s reassurance and support as a supervisor is what makes it possible for me to perform my duty in the Guard without any added stress,” Courtney said. “Graybar is truly committed to supporting the men and women who serve our nation and goes above and beyond in helping me meet my obligations as a Guardsman.”
