I was referred to Graybar by a previous manager of mine. It is a perfect fit for me. I chose to work for Graybar because of the great benefits and the fact that employee ownership and promotion from within are part of the culture.

In my role, I am the first point of contact for my customers. I manage the day-to-day business for two of the biggest electrical contractors in St. Louis. I like managing my own accounts and working as a team with the sales representatives to grow business.

My job is rewarding because of the many people I have met. Many of these people, along with the opportunity to take several electrical classes, have helped me grow into a great customer service representative.

Another reward is the fun that we have. Each year, we have a holiday party for employees and their families. Last year, I dressed as an elf and another employee dressed as Santa. One little boy only wanted his picture taken with me, the elf. His grandmother, a Graybar employee, says he still has the picture on his nightstand.

Although rewarding, my job also has challenges. There are always new obstacles to overcome, which can make completing day-to-day tasks difficult. In the interest of continual improvement, we are changing the way we are used to doing things and sometimes change can be a challenge.

I stay connected with Graybar by reading our employee magazine and using our intranet on a daily basis. I have been involved in the industry by serving as a member of the Women’s Electrical Board, which introduced me to others in my field.

I would want to be a character in the Blind Side. To show that you can start with very little at the bottom and work your way up. Hard work and determination can get you where you want to be in life.
