Graybar was my first employer out of college. I was searching for jobs in the communications field and I found a position working on Graybar's employee magazine. I didn't know a lot about Graybar, but my father assured me it was a solid company. A few interviews later, I began my professional career at Graybar.
I find it comforting to know that Graybar has been around for more than 140 years. Graybar's unique employee-owned business model helps me feel more connected and care about our business decisions. Employee ownership is a huge component of our culture and affects decisions we make every day.
In 2011, I was offered the opportunity to switch teams within sales and marketing. After spending four years communicating to our employees, I jumped into marketing to our customers. Today, my responsibilities include Graybar.com, video, e-mail and web marketing.
I'm presented with new opportunities every day that help me grow professionally. One of the best parts of my job is that my team’s work is seen by the whole company and industry, and there is no better compliment than being recognized by senior management. A challenge of my role is the constant need to develop new and creative ways to address our work. How can we improve our tradeshow booth every year? How can we communicate with customers more effectively? At the same time, learning and executing new skills when time is tight is always a challenge and a thrill.
I stay connected with Graybar's latest news simply by working in the marketing department. But if I ever miss anything, I know I can check our company intranet pages for up-to-date information.
If you could be in a movie, which character would you be & why
I'm not interested in starring in any movies, but if I could be a stuntman that would be pretty exhilarating. Racing Porsches and jumping out of exploding planes is not currently part of my daily routine, but is every guy's dream.
