My decision to work for Graybar was influenced after my online research. I understood different aspects about the company, which made me more interested in my role. I was extremely impressed with Graybar’s history, service to the community, foundation of employee ownership, and benefits package. I felt that I could make a difference and wanted to be a part of the history I was reading about.
The Graybar culture is one that is challenging and exciting. The company’s rich history flows throughout the organization. Graybar is future facing and not afraid to change as needed. I think this is the key to our success – a strong foundation that can change with the times. The culture invites out-of-the-box thinking and encourages success. I really love the people that work here. We’re a family, and we work hard and have fun! There is always someone willing to help, to give guidance, and to encourage. To me, this is the root of what makes Graybar special.
In my role, every day is a new challenge and a new opportunity. This position has helped me to grow both personally and professionally. My challenge is to think of traditional and creative ways that human resources can add more value to the business. I’m rewarded in knowing I’ve helped the company and others exceed expectations. That is exciting because it means I can make a difference.
I appreciate that at Graybar new ideas are not frowned upon, but are taken into consideration, and many times, implemented. We constantly challenge ourselves, and each other, to be the best. We applaud our successes and learn from our mistakes. The Graybar environment is one that will nurture you while allowing you to grow and develop independently and with your team. I can say from personal experience that Graybar lives this culture!
I stay involved with Graybar in a number of ways. I’ve organized a community newsletter showcasing New York District employees and the different organizations/community events they participate in. This fall/winter, I plan on publishing a cookbook with recipes from all over the district. I’ve also started distributing weekly motivational emails to my district focusing on teamwork, drive and being the best.
If you could be in a movie, which character would you be & why
If I had to play a role in any movie, it would be that of Sherry Parker (Jayden Smith’s character’s mother) in Karate Kid. To me the role showed strength and resolve where she had to not only acclimate to a new culture, but also had to ensure that her son was successful in this new culture and environment. From learning a new language to making friends, this character showed a quiet determination and strength that I admire.
